Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What does 'nighttime shutoff' or 'light sensor' mean?

Most cuckoo clocks (either mechanical or battery powered) come with 'nighttime shutoff' in either a manual or 'light sensor' variety. This just means that both varieties enable you to control when the clock makes sounds.

Mechanical cuckoo clocks have a manual 'nighttime shutoff' which are usually a lever with 2 positions - sound on or sound off.

Battery powered cuckoo clocks usually come with an automatic 'nighttime shutoff' otherwise known as a light sensor which detects light levels and disables sound when the lights are off or it is very dark. While some include volume levels as well as sound on/off positions, some models also include an option to stop the sound between the hours of 9:00pm and 8:00am.

'Qoockooo' Horizontal Cuckoo Clock (Red) by Progetti

A balancing act of both form and function, the Qoockooo by Progetti is the perfect compliment for any modern space. It's clean lines and bold form are conceived by renowned Italian designer Alberto Sala who is an innovator in both architecture and design. Qoockooo is a clear example of his modern aesthetic with it's simple horizontal rectangle punctuated by the offset clock face and moving pendulum. The bold words 'qoo ckoo!!', a playful onomatopoeia of the sound of the cuckoo bird, perfectly balance the visual weight of the cuckoo clock and define it's unique style.

The battery powered movement has a photosensitive sensor that automatically turns off the cuckoo sound in the absence of light so that you are never woken by the clock at night. It also has a switch to regulate the volume of the cuckoo sound or to switch it off completely.

This stunning cuckoo clock comes in four colours - white, black, red and wenge (brown wood). It is driven by battery quartz movement and the cuckoo strike, which chimes on the hour with the sound of a light babbling brook and sweet cuckoo call, is switched off automatically during the night by a built-in light sensor controls.

All Progetti cuckoo clocks are fitted with an Engstler™ clock & cuckoo mechanism which is custom built by the Engstler cuckoo clock manufacturer in the Black Forest region, Germany. Their craftsmanship ensures your cuckoo clock works as wonderfully as the world-famous traditional cuckoo clocks of the Black Forest region.

This clock also goes by the name 'Q02' Cuckoo Clock.
