Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What does 'night-time shutoff' or 'light sensor' mean?

Most cuckoo clocks (either mechanical or battery powered) come with 'night-time shutoff' in either a manual or 'light sensor' variety. This just means that both varieties enable you to control when the clock makes sounds.

Mechanical cuckoo clocks have a manual 'night-time shutoff' which are usually a lever with 2 positions - sound on or sound off.

Battery powered cuckoo clocks usually come with an automatic 'night-time shutoff' otherwise known as a light sensor which detects light levels and disables sound when the lights are off or it is very dark. While some include volume levels as well as sound on/off positions, some models also include an option to stop the sound between the hours of 9:00pm and 8:00am.

The "'Pyramid' Modern Art Style" is a unique, battery-powered, modern cuckoo clock that comes with 12 melodies which are played on the hour, in addition to it's cuckoo bird call.

Crafted by Rombach & Haas from wood and materials locally sourced from the Black Forest, and built with the same care and attention as their traditional range, this model is a modern twist on the traditional chalet-styled cuckoo clocks of old and adds to their ever-growing range of beautifully crafted modern cuckoo clocks.

Each cuckoo clock is a unique blend of materials and craftsmanship and each in this range come in a variety of colours/finishes, some with full colour and some with crisp wood-grain showing through varnish.

Adorning each cuckoo clock is a hand-carved cuckoo bird, made by a skilled woodcarver. Upon the hour and also each half hour, the bird comes to life, and animates to the sound of it's natural-sounding 'cuckoo' call followed by one of 12 melodies.

Fitted with a very reliable battery-powered mechanism, this modern cuckoo clock does not need to be wound.

This clock comes with the following features:

  • 12 melodies, cycled through, one each hour.
  • Manual night-time sound shut-off.
  • A moving cuckoo bird which animates when it makes it's 'cuckoo' sound every half and full hour.
  • Swinging pendulum.
  • 2-year warranty.

Since 1894, Rombach & Haas has passed down the techniques of clock-making through generations of family. This expertise is what gives all of their traditional and modern cuckoo clocks the quality, fine detail and lasting finish for which they have become renowned.

When you buy a Rombach & Haas cuckoo clock you are buying a guarantee of superb quality and craftsmanship. Their reputation with the Black Forest Clock Association (VdS), for which they are a long-standing member, is evidence of this.

All of our 1-day and 8-day cuckoo clocks are given the seal of approval by the Black Forest Cuckoo Clock Association.
