Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What does 'night-time shutoff' or 'light sensor' mean?

Most cuckoo clocks (either mechanical or battery powered) come with 'night-time shutoff' in either a manual or 'light sensor' variety. This just means that both varieties enable you to control when the clock makes sounds.

Mechanical cuckoo clocks have a manual 'night-time shutoff' which are usually a lever with 2 positions - sound on or sound off.

Battery powered cuckoo clocks usually come with an automatic 'night-time shutoff' otherwise known as a light sensor which detects light levels and disables sound when the lights are off or it is very dark. While some include volume levels as well as sound on/off positions, some models also include an option to stop the sound between the hours of 9:00pm and 8:00am.

DUE TO BREXIT CHANGES, WE ARE NOT SELLING CLOCKS AT THIS POINT IN TIME: Due to new import VAT taxes from Brexit, we cannot sell any clocks at this point in time until we have updated our prices and VAT information. This is because most of our clocks come directly from our European clockmakers and so we want to protect customers (and ourselves) from any hidden VAT or customs charges until we know exactly what those charges will be. Please send us an email so we can notify you when our store reopens. We hope to be up and running again by the end of January 2021. THUS, WE HAVE ALSO DISABLED THE 'ADD TO BASKET' BUTTON BELOW.

Lemnos, a renowned clockmaker in Japan, brings to you this uniquely shaped cuckoo clock which can adorn any surface in your house or office. Inspired by postmodern architecture, this cuckoo clock consists of two stacked volumes, made from solid Japanese ash wood. The larger cube contains the clock body and a smaller cube houses the cuckoo, which can be rotated to face different directions. This results in a surprising cuckoo clock design that is perfectly suited for the desk or bookshelf.

Cuckoo bird chime upon the hour

Each hour the little cuckoo bird peeps out from its door and sings in the hour with a 'cuckoo' call corresponding with the time. The bird is animated and moves its wings each time it calls, leaning forward an opening its mouth to let out the sound. Beneath the cuckoo birds call, is the soft sound of a babbling brook, which adds that perfect feeling of being amidst the natural world. This cuckoo clock also features an automatic night-time shut-off which works via a light sensor and shuts the sound off when the room is dark.
