Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What does 'night-time shutoff' or 'light sensor' mean?

Most cuckoo clocks (either mechanical or battery powered) come with 'night-time shutoff' in either a manual or 'light sensor' variety. This just means that both varieties enable you to control when the clock makes sounds.

Mechanical cuckoo clocks have a manual 'night-time shutoff' which are usually a lever with 2 positions - sound on or sound off.

Battery powered cuckoo clocks usually come with an automatic 'night-time shutoff' otherwise known as a light sensor which detects light levels and disables sound when the lights are off or it is very dark. While some include volume levels as well as sound on/off positions, some models also include an option to stop the sound between the hours of 9:00pm and 8:00am.

'Uhuhu' Cuckoo Clock (Dark blue/grey & Yellow) by Progetti

Daring, multifunctional, dynamic, and adaptable - that is how we describe the ‘Uhuhu’ Cuckoo Clock, one of Progetti's most unique cuckoo clocks yet.

Comprised of two blocks, one containing the cuckoo bird and the other containing the clock itself, these sections are both joined by a sturdy but flexible cable which defies convention. With this, designer Marc Pons has turned the static cuckoo clock into a dynamic functional object that begs to be rearranged and placed in new and interesting positions and spaces. This modern cuckoo clock is available in three colours - a light blue, a canary yellow and a dark blue/grey - all with the cuckoo bird housed in a cork enclosure. This use of cork allows for it's flexibility as either a wall clock, a table clock or even more ingeniously as a bookend. The possibilities for this modern cuckoo clock are almost endless.

The battery powered movement has a photosensitive sensor that automatically turns off the cuckoo sound in the absence of light. It also has a switch to regulate the volume of the cuckoo sound or to switch it off completely.

All Progetti cuckoo clocks are fitted with an Engstler™ clock & cuckoo mechanism which is custom built by the Engstler cuckoo clock manufacturer in the Black Forest region, Germany. Their craftsmanship ensures your cuckoo clock works as wonderfully as the world-famous traditional cuckoo clocks of the Black Forest region.

MEET THE DESIGNER OF THE ''UHUHU” CUCKOO CLOCK BY PROGETTI: MARC PONS

Marc Pons - made in Barcelona. He studied sculptural arts until he decided to venture into the industrial design scene. As a young product designer, he observes the interaction between mankind and the objects, searching and proposing new scenarios. Pons is unusual, ironic, permeable to his surroundings and has a peculiar sense of humor. He graduated from Llotja school of design and he appreciates design that tests raw materials and skepticism towards design dogmas.
