Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What does 'night-time shutoff' or 'light sensor' mean?

Most cuckoo clocks (either mechanical or battery powered) come with 'night-time shutoff' in either a manual or 'light sensor' variety. This just means that both varieties enable you to control when the clock makes sounds.

Mechanical cuckoo clocks have a manual 'night-time shutoff' which are usually a lever with 2 positions - sound on or sound off.

Battery powered cuckoo clocks usually come with an automatic 'night-time shutoff' otherwise known as a light sensor which detects light levels and disables sound when the lights are off or it is very dark. While some include volume levels as well as sound on/off positions, some models also include an option to stop the sound between the hours of 9:00pm and 8:00am.

A much-loved sight around the mountainous regions of Switzerland are these curious, lively animals—goats—who always seem to be in search of the best flowers or bush twigs to nibble on. This cute little goat—nosing around in front of a Brienz-style chalet on the prowl for a tasty treat—dons a bell around his neck. Up on the balcony you’ll find another very familiar Alpine sight—a pair of beehives, our nod to an important Swiss Alpine tradition that has been handed-down through the centuries.

Product Details:

Mechanical Movement:

This quartz model is powered by two ‘C’ batteries. The chalet and figurines, hand-carved from locally sourced wood, are made with the same loving care and devotion to detail as our mechanical clocks. There are only two diffferences between the quartz and mechanical clocks. With the quartz there is no need for winding, and secondly, the quartz clock’s cuckoo sound is a high-quality recording. The weights are for aesthetic purposes and are made of solid iron.

Figurines and Ornaments:

The figurines are hand-carved and hand-painted, which makes each one of them original and unique.

Night feature:

This clock features a manual switch that allows you to turn off the cuckoo without affecting the clock’s movement.
